Australian Paralympic Committee   -  

The Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) is the principal sporting organisation in Australia for elite athletes with a disability. Formed in 1990, the APC is responsible for the selection, management and participation of Australian Teams attending Paralympic Summer and Winter Games. The role of the APC is to present, promote, represent, advocate, compete in and develop connections to Paralympic sport in Australia. The majority of funding comes from State and Federal Government, corporate sponsorship and public support (through fundraising initiatives). APC expenditure predominately relates to: sports programs (including athlete identification, training and competitions); Paralympic awareness and operations. The APC oversees elite performance programs in 18 Paralympic sports. Twelve sports are managed by National Sporting Organisations (NSOs) under “mainstreaming” agreements with the APC: Athletics, Wheelchair Basketball, Cycling, Equestrian, CP Football, Rowing, Wheelchair Rugby, Sailing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis and Tennis. A further six sports are currently managed direct by the APC: Alpine Skiing, Archery, Boccia, Judo, Nordic Skiing, and Powerlifting. Prior to 2000, the APC directly managed the programs of all supported sports.
